This is insane. And awful. And terrifying.
Perhaps there aren’t enough adjectives or expletives to describe what happened earlier this morning, when a rifle-toting man started spraying bullets at a GOP baseball practice in Virginia.
The gunman seemed to target anyone and everyone as he just let loose, with bullets flying every which way.
The fallout is significant, though thankfully nobody has been killed.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and a congressional aide were two of the individuals seriously injured by the flying bullets; President Donald Trump says Scalise was “badly injured.”
The U.S. Capitol Police took the gunman down before he was able to cause more damage but as Fox News reports, it was a terrifying scene.
“Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Fox News: ‘We were like sitting ducks.‘
‘Without the Capitol Hill police it would have been a massacre,’ Paul said, describing the scene as ‘sort of a killing field.‘
The gunman was shot by Capitol Police and Alexandria Police, apprehended and taken to the hospital, officials said.
Sen. Mike Lee told Fox News, however, the gunman was killed. The incident occurred at Simpson Field in Alexandria, about 10 miles from Washington D.C.”
Said President Trump in a statement:
“The vice president and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely.
We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders and all others affected.”
The president also took to Twitter when he heard about Scalia:
Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, a true friend and patriot, was badly injured but will fully recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

All in all, the assailant got of 50-100 rounds of ammunition and it’s actually a miracle that none of the 15-25 people present at the field lost their life.
Silver linings, fellow Americans.
