Donald Trump is unique.
Yes, in a number of different ways, of course, but perhaps especially in comparison to other presidents. The naive might like to assume that all U.S. presidents are good and pure and clean but hey, let’s not forget Bill Clinton. And he’s hardly the only one.
In fact, we’ve had a short string of presidents in the last two decades who have been anything but “pure.” We’re not talking about morals or ethics; we’re merely talking about behavior…bad behavior, specifically.
For example, our last three presidents all admitted (or at least didn’t deny) using illegal substances. Could that account for such lousy decision-making on their parts?
The latest non-scandal (that the Democrats will likely turn into a scandal) is the claim that Donald Trump has never used drugs, smoked cigarettes, or drunk alcohol. A very bold statement, to say the least; nonetheless, Trump has stated that this is the truth and his mantra of “No Alcohol, No Cigarettes, No Drugs!” has benefitted not only his own life, but his children’s lives.
“’If you don’t drink and you don’t do drugs, your children … are going to have a tremendously enhanced chance of really being successful and having a good life,’ Trump explained at a 2015 New Hampshire town hall. New Hampshire has been ravaged by opioid overdoses in recent years.
‘The world is so tough and it is so competitive that you can’t put yourself, as a child, or even as a parent, if you want that child to be successful, at a disadvantage of letting them drink or letting them take drugs because it is not going to work,’ Trump said, urging sobriety. ‘They are going to be at a tremendous disadvantage and ultimately they may not recover.’”
Should this be the truth (and there is no reason to suspect otherwise) then Trump would hold the honor of being the first president in 24 years who is completely drug-free.
Hold on, though! Here’s the caveat: Just because he and millions of Americans view this as a positive, be prepared to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous accusations.
The Left are not so ready to “trust” someone who doesn’t admit to using illegal substances. There may be an uproar when this fact comes more to light. There will probably be a call to discount his presidency due to the fact that he has never “let loose and compromised his values”.
Clinton first admitted that he tried marijuana, but then qualified it:
“When running for president in 1992, Bill Clinton — then-governor of Arkansas — admitted to having smoked marijuana but claimed he only did so ‘a time or two’ while studying as a Rhodes Scholar in England. Clinton famously claimed he ‘didn’t inhale’ when smoking marijuana.
‘When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and didn’t like it. I didn’t inhale, and I didn’t try it again,’ Clinton said.”
Obama, too, was honest about his exploits into breaking the law as a youth:
“Barack Obama was open about his use of both marijuana and cocaine in his younger days, admitting to both in one of his books. When asked in 2006 whether he ‘inhaled’ when smoking marijuana, Obama replied in the affirmative. ‘That was the point,’ he said.”
Even George W. Bush was in on the action, although wouldn’t come right out and say so:
“George W. Bush admitted to having drinking problems in his youth and avoided denying accusations that he used cocaine.
When running for president in 1999, Bush was the only Republican candidate who wouldn’t deny using cocaine.”
With all the nonsense that came out of the last three presidents, we can be hopeful that Trump may be a different breed of executive, having never been exposed to weed or other substances.
Perhaps clean-living really will help him clean house!
