Hillary Clinton’s loss wasn’t just a sad time for her supporters.
It was also a massive hit to the wallet for her funders.
Just how much did she spend on her losing effort? Well, maybe those who know Clinton’s deep pockets and her almost manic drive toward the presidency (by any means possible), won’t be surprised at the number.
At the same time, you’re probably going to roll your eyes a little:
“Hillary Clinton and her supporters spent a record $1.2 billion for her losing presidential campaign – twice as much as the winner, Donald Trump, according to the latest records,” the New York Post reported.
Who says money buys elections?
In contrast, Trump only spent about $600 million, despite the insistence of political analysts who said it couldn’t be done – that one would have to raise at least $1 billion to win the White House.
Once again, Trump marched to his own drum…and won. He said, to the scoffers at the time:
“I just don’t think I need nearly as much money as other people need because I get so much publicity. I get so many invitations to be on television. I get so many interviews.”
Clinton, in the last legs of the race, actually ramped up her spending to the tune of $131.8 million in the last two weeks alone. She wrapped on November 28 with a coffer of about $839,000, the New York Post reported.
Meanwhile, Trump spent about $84.5 million between October 20 and November 28, and finished with about $7.6 million to spare. Throughout the election, everyone liked to focus on the money/greed issue in regards to Trump the businessman; maybe we should’ve been more interested in how Clinton was spending like mad.
