Just when we hit tax day, Americans are reminded of another reason to dislike the IRS.
The corruption of the agency under the Obama administration simply cannot be ignored.
One way to disgrace a government agency with enforcement powers is to use that agency’s powers for partisan political purposes – put bluntly, to silence critics, obstruct investigations, or intimidate opponents.
It just so happens that this is a terrific description of the Obama administration’s abuse of the IRS.
As if Americans don’t loathe the IRS enough already, Obama, through his surrogate Lois Lerner, gave conservatives another reason to find fault with the tax agency: Ms. Lerner used her position at the IRS to punish conservative not-for-profits.
Now it looks like Ms. Lerner is about to have to answer for her actions. From The Daily Caller:
In a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, two Republican Congressmen “are calling on the Department of Justice to reopen its investigation into whether former IRS official Lois Lerner unlawfully targeted conservative organizations applying for tax-exempt status.“
Could it be that the Obama administration’s efforts to sweep this scandal under the rug will be exposed? Will Lerner answer for her offenses?
Obama’s obstruction of an investigation was expected and went like this.
“‘On April 9, 2014, the House Committee on Ways and Means voted to send a letter to the Department of Justice referring former IRS Exempt Organizations Division Director Lois G. Lerner for criminal prosecution,’ [Congressmen] Brady and Roskam wrote [to Mr. Sessions]. ‘
As indicated in the attached letter, the Committee’s nearly three-year investigation uncovered evidence of willful misconduct on the part of Ms. Lerner.
Despite this fact, and for what many believe were purely partisan reasons, the prior Administration refused to review Ms. Lerner’s misconduct.'”
STORY CONTINUES BELOW…
Recall that the excuse the Obama Justice Department gave for not pursuing Ms. Lerner was because “[t]he investigation faced challenges due to Lerner’s crashed hard drive, the absence of email archives and the destruction of over 400 electronic backup tapes.”
Democrats certainly have their problems with computers and emails, don’t they? Where have we heard a similar story before? Hmm…Ms. Clinton, anything to say?
This will be interesting to follow since Attorney General Sessions is not likely to have all the technical problems that seemed to confound his predecessors. Nor will he play along with an obviously criminal abuse of a government agency by an Obama apparatchik.
All we need now is for that dope John Koskinen to step down and we’ll be good to go…keep draining that swamp, President Trump!
