Democrats have dramatically overplayed their hand in their desperate and failed attempt to prevent Donald Trump from winning the White House.
Legitimate, even aggressive, attacks on political opponents have become a staple of American political campaigns. Much of it might be distasteful, but there’s nothing illegal about it.
On the other hand, campaigns have been known to step over the line. If discovered, this sort of thing can have devastating consequences as we saw decades ago with the Watergate incident.
That, of course, forced a sitting president to resign from office.
Nowadays, we’ve got a liberal-biased media running the country, and we also have evidence of other criminal activities, not the least of which is Democrats circumventing the law to suit their needs.
Via the public interest law firm Judicial Watch (as cited by Fox News):
“Judicial Watch, known for its role in exposing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, announced on Monday that it has sued several federal agencies for information related to Flynn’s discussions with Russian officials before he officially entered the White House.”
Recall that General Flynn was the first causality from the left’s assault on the Trump White House.
The report continues:
The alleged illegal actions by Democratic operatives has hit the news as, “the Washington Free Beacon and multiple other news outlets have reported on a campaign by former Obama administration officials and loyalists to spread highly classified information in a bid to handicap the Trump administration.”
This, of course, is a felony with serious penalties.
Judicial Watch is well known for issuing requests for documents from government agencies through the “Freedom of Information Act.” While that does not compel agencies to release the text of classified material, they must release non-classified documents and be responsive to the reasons for withholding materials that are classified.
In this effort, the Washington Free Beacon has reported that, “Judicial Watch sued multiple agencies after they failed to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests, which must legally be handled by these agencies in a timely fashion.”
The goal of these lawsuits is, “to unearth ‘any and all records regarding, concerning, or related to the investigation of retired Gen. Michael Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak between October 1, 2016 and the present.'”
The Democrats appear to have crossed several lines not only in their attempt to prevent Donald Trump from winning the presidency, but also in their attempt to take it down now that Trump’s team is in place.
The problem they’ve created for themselves is that they’ve resurrected the ghost of Watergate…only this time it looks to haunt the Democrats. Toss in the wire-tapping scandal that’s blowing up in the left’s faces, and this is a bad, bad time for liberals.
If so, it’s a show we will enjoy watching.
