Men are from Mars, Women are from…Fort Leavenworth?
We know President Barack Obama has already set the record for the number of sentences commuted/pardons before leaving office, and that train just keeps hurtling forward. He’s going to let just about everyone on the planet off the hook, it seems.
And one person who just received Obama’s favor is extremely controversial, and the act of this commutation leads many people to wonder about the hypocrisy of Obama and Democrats…as if there’s much to really wonder about.
Chelsea Manning, the transgender soldier convicted of a 2010 leak of sensitive military information that compromised the lives of fellow soldiers, has been awarded with a reprieve for his (her?) sins by President Obama.
In a last minute flurry of activity to knife Americans in the back, Obama commuted the 35-year sentence of the Army Intel analyst who will now officially be released from prison on May 17th of this year.
“At the same time that Mr. Obama commuted the sentence of Ms. Manning, a low-ranking enlisted soldier at the time of her leaks, he also pardoned James E. Cartwright, the retired Marine general and former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who pleaded guilty to lying about his conversations with reporters to F.B.I. agents investigating a leak of classified information about cyberattacks on Iran’s nuclear program.
In addition, Mr. Obama on Tuesday commuted the sentence of Oscar Lopez Rivera, who was part of a Puerto Rican nationalist group that carried out a string of bombings in the late 1970s and early 1980s; the other members of that group had long since been freed. Mr. Obama also granted 63 other pardons and 207 other commutations, mostly for drug offenders.”
Some Republican lawmakers have called these actions by Obama “outrageous” and have said that Manning actually committed espionage against the United States, but it appears that these protests will be too few, too late. With just two days left in office, Obama is likely to pile on a slew of other objectionable actions that will make this Manning story look like a picnic.
When asked to pontificate about the differences between Eric Snowden and Chelsea Manning, press secretary Josh Earnest was quick to respond:
“Chelsea Manning is somebody who went through the military criminal justice process, was exposed to due process, was found guilty, was sentenced for her crimes, and she acknowledged wrongdoing,” he said. “Mr. Snowden fled into the arms of an adversary and has sought refuge in a country that most recently made a concerted effort to undermine confidence in our democracy.”
Did you catch that little jab at Trump and the veiled reference to the whole “Russians HACKING” narrative? Yeah, it’s everywhere now. They’ve finally established it as the “official” reason why Hillary lost the election.
And by attaching that Russian hacking story to this commutation story, we come full circle to the reasons why Obama feels completely justified in screwing the Republicans and the American people.
That’s really all this is about, isn’t it? Oh, and let’s not forget the transgender issue; given Obama’s insane pushing of a certain social agenda, that undoubtedly factored in. We still say he’s the least progressive president in American history but that’s only because we know what the definition of “progressive” actually is.
