Note to conservatives and others waiting with anxious eyes for President Obama to disappear from the political scene on January 20: It ain’t gonna happen.
That’s right: President Obama said so himself. Just because his White House term has come to an end doesn’t mean he’s leaving public service, or leaving the public stage, he said.
Well, of course. You can’t get rid of this guy that easily. No, Obama has much in store for himself, post-presidency, and pretty much all of it calls for him to play a continued active part in government.
As the Washington Examiner reported:
“Obama used his final weekly address in 2016 to make it plainer than ever that he won’t retire quietly once Donald Trump is sworn in as president. Couching his address to the nation as assurance that he will remain committed to defending the ‘progress’ achieved by his administration, the president make it crystal clear that he intends to be a thorn in President Trump’s side after the official handover of power.”
Well, he may put it as an assurance. But to the rest of sane America, waiting for him to exit and take his progressive-socialist politics with him, that assurance translates more as a threat.
Here are Obama’s words, as reported by the Washington Examiner:
“As I prepare to take on the even more important role of citizen, know that I will be there with you every step of the way to ensure that this country forever strives to live up to the incredible promise of our founding — that all of us are created equal, and all of us deserve every chance to live out our dreams.”
When Hillary Clinton was supposed to win, Obama was headed for a life of quiet leisure, largely absent from the public stage. But now? Well, apparently he can’t sit idly by and watch his legacy crumble.
So he’s got to step up to the plate and get back in the political game.
“I promise you that next year Michelle and I are going to be right there with you, and the clouds are going to start parting and the sun is going to come back out, and we’re going to be busy, involved in the amazing stuff that we’ve been doing all these years before,” Obama told supporters in late November, the Washington Examiner reported.
Obama also announced then his family would be sticking around Washington, D.C., until daughter Sasha graduates high school.
Oh joy. Just when you thought he was almost gone. Don’t start celebrating just yet!
