With all the political insanity constantly flooding the airwaves, it’s nice to read about an uplifting story from time to time.
While there’s a lot of darkness out in the world, good deeds are being done all around. We just have to look a little harder sometimes.
From Oklahoma, an inspiring story has emerged about a police officer that went far beyond the call of duty, transforming a young boy’s life in the process.
As reported at Breitbart, one police officer has made a young boy’s dream come true, providing him with a loving home after suffering years of child abuse.
Officer Jody Thompson received a well-deserved commendation on Tuesday from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations for his work investigating a case of child abuse.
“Jody’s actions as well has his families are second to none.
The example of love and compassion he has shown to this young man and his sister is an example everyone should follow,” Poteau Police Chief Stephen Fruen said in a statement.
“It’s men like you that make me proud of our law enforcement brothers and sisters. You are very deserving of this commendation. I am proud to serve with you.”
The story begins when Thompson received a phone call about a potential case of child abuse back in 2015. He was off-duty at the time, but he responded to the call anyway, because he had a strong background working on such cases and simply couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
“I thought I would respond to the call with on-duty officers to see if I could give any kind of assistance,” Thompson told KFSM.
Whether he was used to this sort of thing or not, he couldn’t have imagined the harrowing scene he would find upon arrival. In a trash can full of cold water, Thompson found a badly beaten and emaciated 8-year old boy clinging to life.
“He did not have a spot on his body that didn’t have a bruise or abrasion. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” Thompson said.
He rushed the child, named John, to the Oklahoma Children’s Advocacy Center so detectives could collect information about the him, and promptly took him to the hospital, where he would stay by his side in the intensive care unit.
While watching John recover, Thompson decided to take the necessary steps to become a foster parent, so he could continue watching over the boy.
“When I’d seen him in that house shivering and his hands tied–just soaking wet and confused–I knew at that moment the only time I would be satisfied and sure that he was safe is if he was with me,” Thompson said.
Seven months later, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services called Thompson and asked if he would consider fostering a baby girl. This girl turned out to be John’s sister, who was born while his abusive mother was in jail.
Thompson agreed, uniting brother and sister into a loving family.
“We literally picked her up in the hospital the next day when she was a day old and brought her straight home,” Thompson said.
Talk about a happy ending.
John’s terrible parents are serving lengthy sentences and have relinquished parental rights to the two children, who are now in Thompson’s care.
It may not seem like it sometimes, but all around are people of integrity, trying to do the best they can. Thanks to Thompson’s, these 2 children will now have a chance to experience what it’s like to be a part of a loving family, something they were wrongfully deprived from the start.
