Who can remember when the Russians were invading the Ukraine and setting up troops all over the country in black unmarked uniforms in order for Putin to deny that they were, in fact, Russian soldiers?
[In Russian accent] “What? Troops on the borders of Crimea? What do you mean? I know not of what you speak!”
Who can also remember what we did about that whole episode? Oh, right!
The Obama Administration was completely and utterly silent on the matter. I mean, there was a half-hearted, “Uh, we vociferously condemn…wait, vociferously? Yeah, yeah, vociferously condemn the actions of the Russian government that may or may not have occurred with their army or some other black unmarked uniformed soldiers in Crimea and Ukraine.”
Wow! (slow clapping) That was…nearly believable.
“Vice President-elect Mike Pence on Sunday flatly denied any links between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russian officials.
‘I joined this campaign in the summer, and I can tell you that all the contact by the Trump campaign and the associates were with the American people,’ Pence told host Chris Wallace on ‘Fox News Sunday.'”
It is amazing how a few years can make the heart grow fonder, or in Obama’s case, harder against the Russians. When it was on his watch (well, I guess technically the election in November was also under his watch) he was all like…”What, huh?”
But now, with Donald Trump, a Republican, no less, having some sort of bromance with Vladimir Putin, suddenly there’s a tremendous problem with Russia! Could it be that Obama is merely…dare I say…jealous of their friendliness?
Let’s be honest, Barack really thought he was going to be fly-fishing with Vlad on the newly-acquired waterfront property of the Black Sea, didn’t he?
“The vice president-elect also addressed reports that incoming national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, had contact with Russian officials after the Obama administration unveiled new sanctions on Russia as retaliation for reported cyberattacks during the presidential campaign.
The conversations between Flynn and Russian officials, Pence said, were unrelated to the U.S. sanctions.
‘I talked to Gen. Flynn yesterday, and the conversations that took place at that time were not in any way related to U.S. sanctions,’ Pence said.”
This whole faux outrage over Trump and the Russians is an obvious diversion from the truth: that the Democrats are hurting so badly from the past four elections as to lose the House, Senate, more Governorships, possibly a majority on the Supreme Court, and the White House, and are on the verge of many lean years where a viable candidate is nowhere on the horizon.
If Obama really just wants to hang with the popular kids, Don and Vlad, he should ask. They may haze him a bit with an atomic wedgie (or two), but at least he can look in the mirror in the morning and feel assured that he’s still big with the In-Crowd.
