I was a few years too young to join the Vietnam War, but I remember the friendship bracelets we would wear for our family members and friends who were in the service.
We would not allow ourselves to remove them at any cost, even when showering, for fear that our loved ones would die in the war.
This, by the way, is the proper level of respect accorded our men and women in uniform, something President Donald Trump fully understands.
Anyway, when the Vietnam soldiers returned home, I remember the awful way they were treated.
The flower children of the time, so full of “love and tolerance,” were spitting at these soldiers, calling them baby-killers, stealing their coats and belongings, throwing rocks at them, kicking them or punching them as they walked by, and shouting the most horrible things about them and their families.
They sound just like the Liberals of today, don’t they? Viciously beating on those who don’t agree with them?
That’s because the very same idiotic and intolerant Leftists of that era are now in charge of many of the country’s businesses and governments.
See, when Dylan sang “The times, they are a-changin'”, he wasn’t joking. Only problem was, they were changing for the worse.
But Trump continues to give Americans the proper perspective.
“When they returned home during the tumultuous period of the 1960s and 1970s, many Vietnam veterans were disrespected, hated, even spat upon by liberals. Now, thanks to President Donald Trump, they’re finally being honored with their own day.
According to KCEN-TV, Trump has signed a bill designating March 29 as an annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
The bill was sponsored by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Democrat Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW…
No matter what your feelings on the Vietnam War, it’s clear that the 2.7 million Americans who served in Vietnam — and the 58,000 who died and 304,000 who were wounded — deserve a day of their own. It’s a tragedy beyond words that we, as a country, have been so remiss in remembering their sacrifice and their valor.”
Over the years, Leftists have been shamed for their horrible treatment of Vietnam vets and they were expected to act more grateful the next time around.
However, I can tell you that immediately following my detachment in Operation Desert Storm, while I saw an overwhelmingly wonderful display of gratitude and support from the Right, there were crickets chirping on the Left.
Trump has already made several moves that honor our veterans, and this includes returning their gun rights. That’s just a small token of our president’s appreciation.
Perhaps, in time, Progressives will finally get the message that the military will never vote for them in big numbers because of their blatant disdain.
Or, more likely, the Left will merely continue to despise the military and its mission to keep America safe.
