Get ready for the storm.
Donald Trump’s inauguration kicks off in just a few days, and that means, for the far left, time to pick up the protests…and things could get dangerous.
Everyone from Black Lives Matter to Hollywood types are planning to rally and rise up against Trump’s presidency, doing everything they possibly can to demonstrate just how opposed they are to the billionaire businessman taking over the White House.
Translation: security is going to be a major headache for the Capitol Hill area. There’s no knowing what these protesters might do, especially knowing all their last-gasp chances to oust Trump have fallen flat.
Therefore, it’s up to the Secret Service and other law enforcement to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.
“The stage is set for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration – not just the traditional swearing-in platform on Capitol Hill, but a massive security presence amid protest plans to ‘shut down’ the nation’s capital,” as Fox notes.
President Obama’s inauguration in 2009 set a record in terms of attendance, coming in around 1.8 million, at least as some estimates say. The estimate for Trump’s isn’t nearly as high.
But prepare for throngs of protesters.
Sen. Roy Blunt, who chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, said the city could see 750,000 demonstrators and protesters. And that means security is going to be quite a concern.
“Roughly 7,500 Guardsmen from across the country will come to Washington, along with about 3,000 police officers from various states, with the Secret Service taking the lead on security,” Fox News said.
Security personnel will be holding a “dress rehearsal” this coming weekend to help prepare for the real event. But the fact is clear: January 20 is going to be a tense time, at best.
Protesters aren’t just planning on holding signs and issuing chants. Rather, they’re outright planning to shut down Capitol Hill, shutter traffic, disrupt proceedings and generally make the inaugural day event as unpleasant as possible for Trump supporters.
So again, get ready for the storm. January 20 is bound to be as real and as in-your-face as you can get in terms of showing the differences in political opinions that have rocked this country over the past few months – nay, over the past few years.
