The new Secretary of the Department of Education Betsy DeVos has been heralded by many Conservatives as a godsend.
But those fans may wish to withhold judgment for the time being.
Recently, a memo issued by Candice Jackson, the Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in the U.S. Education Department, detailed a defiant policy that was contrary to the Trump rejection of the Obama-era transgender rules.
The threatening and jargon-filled memo appears to advocate the old policies of the ex-president in an apparent DOE deep-state type move where the information was shipped off to states and school systems, almost acting as if Trump’s edicts were inconsequential.
Oddly, Betsy DeVos has been implicated in this deep-state move simply because she appears to agree with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) on the transgender matter.
“An internal memo in the Department of Education says officials will investigate schoolteachers who do not comply with children’s demands to be called by the opposite-sex pronoun, for example, ‘her’ instead of ‘him.’
The memo tells department lawyers how to respond when they get complaints involving ‘transgender students.’
It says the department’s left-wing lawyers can use recent and disputed federal court decisions — not the elected President’s popular policies — to justify high-pressure lawsuits against teachers who have normal attitudes about the equal, different and complementary status of males and females.
For example, lawyers can investigate a case of ‘hostility’ where school personnel are ‘refusing to use a transgender student’s preferred name or pronouns when the school uses preferred names for gender-conforming students or when the refusal is motivated by animus toward people who do not conform to sex stereotypes,’ the document says.”
Back in February, the Trump administration reversed Obama’s change that allowed “gender-confused students” to use bathrooms and locker rooms of whichever gender they “feel” they are.
Yeah, that obviously needed to be shot down. But what is this new development about investigating teachers who don’t toe the politically correct line?
The OCR memo also intimates that schools participating in the voucher and school choice programs could be subject to such withholding of funding if they are found to be violating the “transgender” rules.
Not good news for those who had hoped our schools would return to TEACHING and LEARNING as opposed to social justice warrior training centers.
