By now, you’re fully aware of Meryl Streep’s anti-Donald Trump speech at the Golden Globes, which has lit a fire under Conservatives and Republicans. Hell, even some Democrats hate what she did.
And yet, despite the outcry, despite millions of people calling out Streep for a distasteful and largely inaccurate rant, Hollywood in all its glory and power have decided to stand behind the vaunted actress. And we’re not surprised in the least.
It doesn’t seem to matter that Streep’s hypocrisy was put on full display with a flashback video of her standing ovation for Roman Polanski, who fled the U.S. amid charges of raping a 13-year-old girl.
Nah, as far as the Hollywood Foreign Press is concerned, Streep did quite well that night.
Via LA Times:
“In the letter obtained by the Los Angeles Times, the 90-member HFPA, a group consisting of 90 international journalists from across the world, applauded Streep for exercising her 1st Amendment rights: “As an organization of journalists, the HFPA stands by your defense of free expression and we reject any calls for censorship.”

As an organization of journalists, the HFPA stands by your defense of free expression and we reject any calls for censorship.
We thank you for your unwavering support for the arts.
With gratitude and respect,
Hollywood Foreign Press Association
Yes, seriously. You know, this has to stop. These celebrities really are out of control. This bunch of egomaniacal, self-righteous, outrageously smug, self-proclaimed politicians and pundits and ambassadors, needs a harsh wakeup call, and I say we give it to them.
The only reason these people have any platform whatsoever is because they’re popular; they have lots of fans. Millions go to watch them perform. Well, good for them. But what happens when we start boycotting their stuff?
Hell, Hollywood has been churning out bigger and bigger piles of adolescent, embarrassing trash for years now, anyway…what would we really lose if we just stopped going to the movies?
Frankly, I wouldn’t lose much of anything. I’m pretty convinced Hollywood, in any capacity, kills brain cells.
