After weeks of wondering, the pick is in and it’s – drumroll, please – Rex Tillerson for secretary of state under Donald Trump.
Trump spent quite a lot of time searching for the right candidate, naming everybody from former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton – who was given the deputy secretary role at state – to former Massachusetts governor and failed presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. But in the end, he went with the CEO of ExxonMobil.
And Tillerson’s already received some high marks from others who know exactly what the secretary position entails and apparently, think the CEO’s a good match.
Who’s the fan?
None other than Condoleeza Rice, who served in the same slot during the George W. Bush administration.
As the Conservative Tribune noted, she took to Facebook to write:
“I know Rex as a successful business man and a patrio. He will represent the interests and the values of the United State with resolve and commitment. And he will lead the exceptional men and women of the State Department with respect and dedication.”
She also called him an “excellent choice” with a “deep understanding” of global affairs, and a respect for America as a great nation.
Now, if the democrats are being honest, they respect Rice’s comments here, right? They at least have to admit that this woman has quite the accomplished history and if she has something positive to say about one of Trump’s cabinet selections, maybe we should listen.
But of course, that might be too much to ask for.
